Community has always been top of mind for SaskTel and its employees. SaskTel TelCare, started back in 1950, is an incredible way for employees to make a difference right here at home. Over 500 SaskTel employees contribute regularly to the TelCare fund through payroll deductions. SaskTel makes an additional donation of $0.50 for every employee dollar donated. These donations are made to non-profit organizations throughout the province, including the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan.

We recently had the opportunity to talk with Nora Yeates, CEO of the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, on the impact the TelCares donations have made to their organization.

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself and your role within the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan.

A: I’m Nora, the CEO of the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan. We are the foundation that raises money for cancer care needs in the province of Saskatchewan.

Q: Tell us a bit about the mission and vision of the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan.

A: Our mission at the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan is to raise funds to support care for cancer patients in the province. We are 100% funded by donors, and everything we do is support cancer patients in our province.

Q: What is the foundation doing for patients and patients' families?

A: When you give to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, every dollar stays in our province to support the work of the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. That includes the work of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, the Saskatoon Cancer Centre, we have two cancer patient lodges in the province, research that’s being done right here in Saskatchewan, as well as screening programs. Those are all of the facilities and programs that we support when you make your donations here in Saskatchewan.

Q: How have TelCare donations supported the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan?

A: SaskTel TelCare is an incredible partner of the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan. They have been loyal donors for many years and in fact have donated over $300,000 to support cancer patients here in our province. Everything from equipment, to the patient care and comfort items that actually touch the patient. There are so many needs for families that are going through the cancer journey. Just recently TelCare has supported with the purchase of 15 Health Hub Monitors, to support cancer patients going through chemotherapy treatment.

Q: What long-term benefits do you foresee as a result of TelCare donations?

A: It’s not just about the donations they give, but what they inspired the rest of the community to do. By giving and supporting cancer patients, they are supporting their friends, family, neighbours, and colleagues. With TelCare stepping up and supporting people in our community, they are truly inspiring others to give. That is going to provide for cancer patients today and in the future. We are just so very grateful for that partnership.
