In Saskatchewan, we're fortunate to have a beautiful landscape, living skies, and talented artists who like to show off the best parts of our province. While non-essential travel is limited in the province during the Covid-19 pandemic, we chatted with some SaskTel customers who beautifully portray Saskatchewan's landscapes (and people) so we can visit our vast province through photography.

We asked them what they like to shoot, what equipment they use, and how social media and Instagram have helped them grow as photographers. Keep reading and give them all a follow! Nathan Jones, Saskatoon

What's your favourite subject to shoot? I'm mostly interested in shooting rural and remote areas and the people who live there. I'm currently shooting a couple of projects on small-town rodeos and agriculture. I'm also always interested in shooting friends.
What's your camera of choice? I'm having the most fun with my Yashica D right now. I usually have a Canon 6D and a disposable around as well.
What editing software do you use? I use Adobe Lightroom and I'm currently learning how to develop film.
How has social media helped you grow? Social has been more about creating a community and finding friends than building a large audience. It’s fun to be inspired and chat with other photo pals in Saskatchewan and beyond.

Casey Marshall, Regina

What's your favourite subject to shoot? I love shooting landscapes and adventures. I find that placing a person in a vast landscape helps give a sense of scale and provide that wow factor!
What's your camera of choice? Nikon D750 with the Nikon 20mm f1.4 lens for most of my landscapes and night photos!
What editing software do you use? I use Adobe Lightroom for most things, and occasionally I will remove a distraction or a person from an image with Photoshop.
How has social media helped you grow? My social media has helped by allowing me to connect with other creatives who inspire me, whether we’re chatting through DMs, or we're meeting up to go shoot or grab a coffee and discuss cameras, gear and editing techniques. Social media has been incredibly beneficial to growing my skills as a photographer. It has become my online portfolio, a place I look to for inspiration and a way to connect with everyone who follows along on my adventures! I love engaging with my followers and answering any questions they may have.

Angela Bailey, Regina

What's your favourite subject to shoot? I love taking pictures of people to capture the candid side of them—the side that you wouldn't see when they're posing for you. I tell them to pose but then shoot the in-betweens to try to capture them authentically. I also love shooting in coffee shops or restaurants and just capturing things as they are, finding the beauty that's right in front of all of us. It sounds super cheesy but it's so easy to find and I feel that a lot of people focus on the negatives, so I actually use photography as a way of having a positive outlook on things in general.
What's your camera of choice? Sony A7III.
What editing software do you use? Adobe Lightroom.
How has social media helped you grow? Social has helped me grow in so many different ways. When you put yourself out there you really do get whatever it is that you need in return. Being able to connect with people so easily through platforms like Instagram has made meeting other people who share the same interests a breeze! Learning how to connect with people and grow an audience has been great.

Mark Peterson, Birch Hills

What's your favourite subject to shoot? I really enjoy shooting sports, but my go-to is landscapes. I like being able to incorporate a little bit of history in it, whether it is an old fence, building, grain elevator—things that are common in Saskatchewan but are often overlooked by people.
What's your camera of choice? A used Canon T2i.
What editing software do you use? Adobe Lightroom.
How has social media helped you grow? Social media helps me get my work out there. I used to be scared to show my work and I started to put myself out there and got a lot of good feedback and I just kept going. I have been able to do so many cool things that I would never have been able to do just because somebody stumbles across my page.

Aleesha LH, Moose Jaw

What's your favourite subject to shoot? People. I love the unpredictability of kids and babies and families. They each have their own unique qualities and character, so it’s never the same.
What's your camera of choice? Canon Mark 5D III.
What editing software do you use? Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
How has social media helped you grow? Social media has helped me connect with people I wouldn’t have otherwise. You don’t realize how much you relate to someone until you post something and someone messages you or comments about how they feel the same way. It’s a good reminder that we are not alone in our triumphs and struggles.

Dustin Veitch, Regina

What's your favourite subject to shoot? My favourite things to shoot lately are old classic cars and any old barns I can find while exploring southern Saskatchewan. I like to see things left over from a much earlier time and going out exploring to see them gives me the perfect opportunity to see areas of the province I haven’t been to before.
What's your camera of choice? Hasselblad 500CM medium format film camera.
What editing software do you use? I like to use Adobe Photoshop for the majority of my photo editing.
How has social media helped you grow? I use social media to connect with people with similar interests. Being primarily a film photographer, it can be challenging to find other people that share the same love for analog photography in my area. Social media makes those dots much easier to connect and because of that, I’m able to meet up with other film photographers across the province, build the Saskatchewan film shooting community, or just to meet up with anyone that loves to shoot.

What's your favourite subject to shoot? Absolutely everything except weddings.
What's your camera of choice? Nikon Z6 and F80.
What editing software do you use? Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop.
How has social media helped you grow? Social media is great for building community and great to draw inspiration from.

Erin Crooks, Saskatoon

What's your favourite subject to shoot? My business niche is portraits, lifestyle, and personal branding for small businesses!
What's your camera of choice? I currently shoot all my work with my Canon 6D Mark ii. My favourite go-to lenses for portrait work is my Sigma Art 50mm. It’s a gorgeous combo!
What editing software do you use? I do the majority of my editing on Adobe Lightroom, with any additional retouching done in Photoshop. Lightroom is my go-to for quick and easy editing, I actually retail my own collections of Lightroom mobile & desktop presets for photographers & Instagram users!
How has social media helped you grow? Without social media and working from my phone, my business couldn’t be what it is today! Social has allowed me to create and connected with my following, drive sales, showcase my love of photography, and build some amazing friendships within the creative industry!

What's your favourite subject to shoot? Fashion and beauty.
What's your camera of choice? Canon 5D Mark iv and my iPhone 11 Pro Max.

How has social media helped you grow? It serves as an online portfolio of my work, and also as a window into my life. It’s such a good way to connect easily with other photographers and clients.

What's your favourite subject to shoot? Natural landscapes.
What's your camera of choice? Canon EOS R with RF 50mm lens. For aerial photography I use a DJI Mavic Air.
What editing software do you use? Adobe Lightroom for photo editing and Final Cut Pro X for video editing.
How has social media helped you grow? I picked up my first camera over 3 years ago, and that's when my love for outdoor/landscape photography began. My passion grew rapidly, focussing on travel in Saskatchewan and documenting my journeys via social media for others to be inspired to explore Saskatchewan, too. In 2018, I was one of the lucky chosen ones to fill the role of the Saskatchewanderer, and from there on out, I have been actively connecting with people from all over Saskatchewan, out of province and internationally through social media, paving the path to connecting with so many people who have common interests like travel, photography and so much more.
