For as long as she can remember, Kristen has been driven by creativity. She’s fascinated by design and is a self-admitted yearbook geek. She loves making things beautiful. And she’s been singing and making music since she started talking.
Kristen’s first career was in music, receiving two university degrees in music and teaching voice for 12 years. After years of rewarding but demanding work building her studio, a particularly difficult year made her consider other options. She knew she wanted to do something creative and meaningful, but more importantly she knew she needed something that would allow her the flexibility to be there for her growing family when they needed her.
And that’s when she started blogging.
In 2016, Kristen launched Shifting Roots. Some of her articles highlight recipes that her family loves. Others walk readers through crafts and home decor tips. But her major focus is on gardening. As an only child, Kristen grew up doing a lot of work in the family garden—and resisted every minute of it. But as a homeowner and mother, she realized she had skills and knowledge that many of her peers didn’t.
Kristen uses those skills—and her SaskTel wireless and internet connections—to help friends and followers with their Zone 3 gardening questions. She’s not afraid to share the unpolished moments, either, acknowledging her disappointments alongside her triumphs on Instagram. In gardening, just like in life, there are no guarantees. And for Kristen and her family, that’s just fine, because in Kristen’s words, “the thing you end up with when you work with what you have is so much better.”
We’re very proud that SaskTel is part of Kristen’s story, and we’re so happy to see her flourishing.
